MK asks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I am trying to use countif to find the number of times a word <i><u>exactly<\/u><\/i> appears in a column \u2013 e.g. count the no of times \u201cPACK\u201d appeared in a column excluding \u201cpack\u201d etc. I remember seeing a combination of countif and exact functions used in conjunction somewhere, but not able to figure out the right formula.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To solve this problem, MK could use the SUMPRODUCT and EXACT functions in a formula. As shown in Example 6, this technique will <a title=\"count items that are an exact match\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.contextures.com\/archives\/2011\/01\/02\/30-excel-functions-in-30-days-01-exact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">count items that are an exact match<\/a>, including the upper and lower case.<\/p>\n<p>For example, to match the contents of cell C2, in a list in column A, use this formula:<\/p>\n<p><strong>=SUMPRODUCT(\u2013EXACT($A$2:$A$11,C2))<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you have another solution, please post it in the comments.
