A specific region? Product type?\n<ul>\n<li>In this example, I want all the records with <strong>total amount greater than 200<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fields (Columns)<\/strong>: Do you want all the fields from the source data, or only specific columns?\n<ul>\n<li>In the extracted data, I only want <strong>3 columns \u2013 Order, Cost and Total<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"step2\">Step 2: Create Criteria and Extract Areas<\/h2>\n<p>For an Advanced filter, set up two ranges \u2013 Criteria area, and Extract area<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Criteria<\/strong>: Field names as headings in first row; rules for each field in row below<\/li>\n<li><strong>Extract<\/strong>: Field names as headings in first row<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: For detailed notes on setting up these areas, go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contextures.com\/xladvfilter01.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Advanced Filter page<\/a> on my Contextures site.<\/p>\n<h3>Sample Criteria and Extract Areas<\/h3>\n<p>In the screen shot below, I\u2019ve set up the 2 areas, with both on the same worksheet:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Criteria area<\/strong>: I only orders with a <strong>Total<\/strong> greater than 200\n<ul>\n<li>Heading: <strong>Total<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Rule: <strong>&gt;200<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Extract area:<\/strong> I only want 3 columns: <strong>Order<\/strong>, <strong>Cost<\/strong>, and <strong>Total<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/exceltheatre.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/advancedfilterdifferentsheet04.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"Advanced Filter extract area and criteria area\" src=\"https:\/\/exceltheatre.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/advancedfilterdifferentsheet04_thumb.png\" alt=\"Advanced Filter extract area and criteria area\" width=\"444\" height=\"230\" border=\"0\" \/>\u00a0 <\/a><\/h3>\n<h2 id=\"step3\">Step 3: Run the Advanced Filter<\/h2>\n<p>Before you run the advanced filter, it\u2019s important to <strong>start in the correct location<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, go to the <strong>destination<\/strong> worksheet \u2013 the sheet where you set up the Extract range<\/li>\n<li>On that sheet, select a blank cell, that is not near the headings, or any other data<\/li>\n<li>Next, go to the Data tab and click the <strong>Advanced<\/strong> command, in the Sort &amp; Filter group<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the Advanced Filter dialog box:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select <strong>Copy to another location<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>List range<\/strong>, select the source table on the original sheet\n<ul>\n<li>If the data is a table,<br \/>\nclick the top-left corner twice, to include headers (you ight see the table name appear)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>Criteria range<\/strong>, select your criteria area (heading cell, and rule cell)<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>Copy to<\/strong>, select the extract headings you created on the destination sheet<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/exceltheatre.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/advancedfilterdifferentsheet05.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"Advanced Filter dialog box\" src=\"https:\/\/exceltheatre.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/advancedfilterdifferentsheet05_thumb.png\" alt=\"Advanced Filter dialog box\" width=\"385\" height=\"325\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Instant Results<\/h3>\n<p>As soon as you click OK, all the records that meet the criteria will be listed on the worksheet, under the Extract area headings.<\/p>\n<p>This quick speed is why I love using Advanced filters, especially when I\u2019m creating reports with Excel programming!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/exceltheatre.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/advancedfilterdifferentsheet08b.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentcolor; Warnings<\/h2>\n<p>Here are a few things to keep in mind when using Excel Advanced filters:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Advanced Filter copies values and cell formatting that are directly applied\n<ul>\n<li>It does not copy conditional formatting rules<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Formulas from the source data become values in the copied results<\/li>\n<li>The extracted data is <strong>not linked<\/strong> to the source data.\n<ul>\n<li>Changing the source <strong>does not update<\/strong> the copy automatically<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If the data changes, you can run the Advanced Filter again, to get the current results<\/li>\n<li>Any changes you make in the extract <strong>do not change the original table<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"sample\">Get the Sample File<\/h2>\n<p>To get the sample Excel file, so you can follow along with the video, go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contextures.com\/excelfiltersheetcriteria.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Send Data to Different Sheet<\/a> page, on my Contextures site.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"faq\">FAQ<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3 data-faq-question=\"true\">Will the copied data update automatically when the source changes?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div data-faq-answer=\"true\">No. The Advanced Filter result is not connected to the source data.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div data-faq-answer=\"true\">If the source data changes, run the Advanced Filter again to update the extract.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3 data-faq-question=\"true\">Does the Advanced Filter keep formulas and conditional formatting?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div data-faq-answer=\"true\">No. Formulas are copied as values.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div data-faq-answer=\"true\">Direct cell formatting is kept, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contextures.com\/xlcondformat01.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conditional formatting rules<\/a> are not copied.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3 data-faq-question=\"true\">Can I copy only some columns to the other sheet?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div data-faq-answer=\"true\">Yes.
