Data Validation Limericks by ChatGPT
Last week, I had fun with a Shakespearean sonnet about Excel problems, written by ChatGPT. So, to keep myself further entertained, I tried a different type of poetry this week – a limerick!
Setting the Limerick Rules
Limericks can get a bit risqué sometimes, so I asked ChatGPT to use “language suitable for the workplace”. In hindsight, I probably should have clarified what type of workplace, but things turned out well, fortunately, so “Phew!”
This week, the topic I selected was Excel Data Validation, and I asked for five limericks on that topic – it’s one of my favourite features in Excel.
And if you want to read more about Excel Data Validation, in non-limerick form, you can find lots of data validation tips, examples and videos on my Contextures site. There’s also a data validation video below the limericks.
Limerick 1
I like the “trick or treat” theme in this one!
In Excel, data validation’s a treat,
It can keep your cells quite neat,
With just a few clicks,
You can set up the tricks,
To make sure your data can’t cheat.
Limerick 2
Yes, bad dates can be a problem – in Excel and in life!
When inputting dates, don’t be late,
Use Excel’s data validation mate,
It’ll pick out the wrong,
And keep your data strong,
With no errors that’ll make you irate.
Limerick 3
Never let your min and max get out of whack!
To keep data within a range,
Use Excel’s validation strange,
You’ll set the minimum and max,
And data that’s out of whack,
Won’t even get the chance to change.
Limerick 4
I see what you did there, ChatGPT – don’t “fumble” your “drop’ down list!
If you want to use a list,
For data validation, don’t resist,
Excel makes it so simple,
Just set it up, don’t fumble,
Your data will be organized and kissed.
Limerick 5
And finally, the mental health benefits of data validation!
To ensure no duplicates appear,
Use Excel’s data validation dear,
It’ll keep your data clean,
And your mind serene,
With no errors that’ll bring you to tears.
Data Validation Video
To create a drop down list in Excel, you can name a list of items, based on a named Excel table. Then, use that list as the source for the Data Validation drop down list.
Watch the steps in this short video, and the written instructions are on my Contextures site.
